Polished Concrete Flooring Not to be confused with sealing and waxing concrete flooring, polished concrete flooring is the result of a mechanical process in which concrete is machined to a high polish through a succession of diamond polishing pad changes. When used in conjunction with a chemical concrete hardener, the resulting finish is a concrete floor that is unusually resistant to chipping, flaking, and marring while its appearance and shine is enhanced. The true beauty is realized in the sustainability and long-term savings from the low cost of maintenance. No topical sealer is applied with the exception of a thin stain guard used for applications prone to food, beverage, and/or oil spills. No stripping and reapplying of topical sealers and waxes is required to maintain the sheen. Polished concrete flooring may be chemically stained or dyed to virtually any color. Toughstuff Industrial Floors is proud to feature L & M Construction Chemicals' FGS / PermaShine concrete polishing system. Please visit www.fgs-permashine.com to learn more about the many advantages of this specific polished concrete flooring system. In addition to accentuating the natural beauty of concrete and increasing the ambient light reflection, it is certified by the National Floor Safety Institute (NFSI) as a "High Traction" floor, it offers excellent sustainability / low long term costs, is certified 'green' and qualifies for LEEDS projects and credits.

Diamond polishing pads range from 50 grit up to 3,000 grit, allowing customers to choose what level of polish they prefer for their business or home.
-
An 800 grit polish a.k.a. a Level I polish, is generally considered the standard for most commercial and public projects.

For beautiful, natural concrete terrazzo, Toughstuff employs a 'concrete shaver' to remove up to 1/2" of cement from the top of concrete slabs to expose the natural aggregates. The exposed aggregate surface is then machined to a high polish following the standard FGS / PermaShine system for concrete polishing and hardening.
-
Customers may design their own custom concrete terrazzo floors; incorporating recycled glass, available in a full spectrum of colors, into polymer-modified cement overlays or new concrete, then polishing it.
